Course Curriculum

What to Expect:

Each of our 10 Term 3 Lessons On-Demand provide 40 minutes of active engagement for both you and your child to enjoy, learn from, and share. Each week’s activities are carefully designed to nurture key aspects of your child’s development, including language acquisition, speech development, auditory processing, motor skills, and the ability to focus and keep a steady beat.

In Term 3:

Your child will extend their reading skills and be introduced to basic melodic notation. Your child will learn to follow simple two-note melodies on the music staff and sing them, before transferring them to their chime bars. Your child will play musical games that further develop their listening skills and encourage them to sing solos. Your child will also build on their understanding of rhythm and start to make crotchets (taa) and quavers (ti-ti) conscious. Your child will learn how to draw these notes and how to sight read basic rhythm patterns. Children will participate in ensemble activities with the teacher using their chime bars and percussion instruments.

Your child will learn simple songs on their chime bars that highlight beat, rhythm and the crotchet rest (saa). Your child will also work from their music book, finding high and low notes on the music staff. Your child will practise pointing to a steady beat while singing and will learn to read simple picture symbols which introduce musical notation. Your child will love the dramatic play activities and games which will be played throughout the term.

What You Will Need:

For the 4-5 year old lessons, you will require a chime bars. Chime bars are like a little xylophone with removeable notes. We recommend the Angel Glockenspiel 8 Notes APG-8C manufactured by Angel Musical Instrument Co. Ltd. It is also known as the Angel Resonator Set or Angel Chime Bars. If you cannot find a local supplier, you can purchase them within Australia from our Australian shop CLICK TO ORDER HERE.

Your Teacher - Maddy Kelly

Maddy was born into a family of musicians and music teachers. She grew up singing and performing with her family. On completing school she managed and performed in her own band ‘Wishful’, and released two EPs of original music. Maddy worked as a full-time musician, and toured through Europe, Australia and New Zealand as a backing singer for blues artist CW Stoneking. She has also performed with Dan Kelly, Chris Watts, Saatsuma and Paul Kelly. Maddy discovered her love of working with children while performing in children’s theatre including performances at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne Comedy Festival. She holds a Bachelor in Primary Education and Level 1 Orff-Schulwerk.

Maddy joined Mini Maestros in 2016 and quickly attracted a strong following for her excellent teaching and engagement of the children. In 2019 Maddy was appointed Head of Teaching for Mini Maestros and is responsible for the training and mentoring of Mini Maestros teachers. Maddy has been outstanding in this role and is an inspiration for all our teachers as well as her students and their carers.

Testimonial from Belinda

"We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the Mini Maestros online classes. Mini Maestros have done their very best to make the classes as interactive as possible and sticking to the format of the face-to-face classes which I think helps our children with familiarity when they need it the most."

Testimonial from Amy

"The Mini Maestros online program was such a delight to have and brought huge value to myself and my young daughters. The babies programs was clever, fun and engaging, repetitive enough for the babies, but novel enough for the parents. Our family has really enjoyed our experience and I can't rate them highly enough. Having it all on Teachable and only a few clicks away is a huge bonus. Thanks team!"

Testimonial from Meaghan

"Thank you, Mini Maestros for your online classes! The classes are presented with perfect timing and early learning fun by Maddy, so much so that my daughter happily engages with her during activities - speaking the answers and singing where asked to."
